"Since 2007, flatsound, the lo-fi bedroom project of Southern California’s Mitch Welling, has combined ambient textures with emotionally charged vocals to create beautiful, pensive music. In the vein of acts such as Brian Eno and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Welling has singlehandedly experimented with a plethora of different sounds over the course of his large discography. Several albums, EPs, and singles follow his journey through different recording methods to achieve his goal of writing honest songs: from the intimacy of one microphone in a bedroom, to massive, almost orchestral, combinations of beats and ambient booms, to his intensely passionate poetry over subtle instrumentals. His 2011 LP effort, i clung to you hoping we’d both drown saw a crossroads of sorts, where all his different approaches accumulated into a singular piece of art, making for one of the most all-encompassing records of his career. In 2015, for the very first time, flatsound is being pressed to vinyl by Still Life Records on a beautiful double LP and limited edition color." - Jorge Velez (Funeral Sounds/ohnoimlateforschool)
